JENNIE (VOS) VIS, of Edgerton, formerly of Leota, died Monday, August 27, 2012, at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. She was born on April 4, 1916 to Gerrit and Marrigje (Vander Wal) Vos on a farm place near Leota, MN.  She was baptized and made profession of faith at Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota.  She attended Leota Christian School through the 8th grade.

Jennie married Arie Vis on October 26, 1939.  Together they farmed on four different places.  They lived near Holland, Leota, Kenneth and Chandler MN., as well as milking for Arie's brother in Escalon, CA. They had farm sale and moved to Leota in October, 1968.  While living in Leota she worked as a cook and janitor at Leota Christian Grade School, janitor at Ebenezer CRC, and did housework.  Out of necessity and with satisfaction, Jennie loved cooking, baking, gardening and canning. Her hobbies included embroidering, playing games, and coffee guests after church.  She was a faithful member of Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church, ladies aid, S.W. Christian High School Circles, and volunteered with friends at the Alpha Center in Sioux Falls, SD.  She was a source of strength to her family, giving thanks to God in times of joy and sorrow.  Jennie was thankful for her health and the many years God gave her.  She loved her friends and the Christian fellowship in the Leota community.

Her husband passed away July 2, 1988.  She moved to Edgebrook Apartments in 2002 and to Edgebrook Care Center in 2009.  Jennie left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on August 27, 2012.  She reached the age of 96 years, 4 months and 23 days.

She is lovingly remembered by her children:  Joanne (John) Talsma, Edgerton; Marge (John) Prins, Medesto, CA; Garvin (Bonnie) Vis, Leota; Verla Walhof, Edgerton; Orv (Judy) Vis, Leota; Glady (Les) Mesman, Sioux Falls, SD; Diane (Harlan) Spronk, Edgerton; Arla (Tom) Bouma, Edgerton; and Dennis (Lonna) Vis, Leota; 33 grandchildren, and 56 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice (Pete) Krosschell, Edgerton; and two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Vos and Margaret Vis, Edgerton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arie; infant daughter; infant granddaughter, Sheila Walhof, in 1966; sons-in-law, Jerry Gerdes, in 2009; and Bern Walhof, in 2012; siblings, Gertie Nykamp, Annie Prins, and Carrie Hamm, and brothers, Arent, Bill, Dick, and Gerrit Vos.

Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Wednesday at the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota. Funeral will be 10:30 am Thursday at the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota. Burial will be in the Leota Community Cemetery.
Arrangements are being made by the Leota Burial Association and the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian.
