JENNIE WASMUND, age 101, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Southshore Care Center in Worthington. She was born May 27, 1910 in Dale Township near George, IA, to parents George, Sr. and Kassiena (Vander Werff) King. She attended rural school near Sibley, IA. In 1924 she moved with her family to Michigan to be near other relatives. They lived there for about a year and Jennie worked in the celery fields. The family then moved back to Minnesota. Being the oldest, she was responsible for helping take care of her younger siblings. On May 25, 1937, she was united in marriage to Chester Wasmund in Sibley, IA. After their marriage they lived in the Rushmore area and the couple operated a trucking business. On December 19, 1943, Chester was killed in a truck/train accident. In 1944, Jennie took employment as a housekeeper for Bernard Christians near Wilmont. Later they moved to a farm east of Ellsworth where she raised her two sons. Bernard died in 1973. In 1982 Jennie moved to Worthington and in September of 1999, she moved into Southshore Care Center. Jennie enjoyed going to garage sales. She is survived by her son, Gordon (Martha) Wasmund, Sibley, IA; daughter-in-law, Judy Wasmund, Belvidere, IL; four brothers, John (Irene) King, Worthington, MN; Carl (Lucille) King, Rushmore, MN; James King, Worthington, MN; and Percy King, Bloomington, MN; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Jennies is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Chester, son, Roger in August of 2010, one granddaughter, one great grandchild, five sisters and two brothers.
