JOAN MARY WINKEL, age 91, of Worthington, died Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at South Shore Care Center in Worthington. She was born April 5, 1932, in Worthington, to Jake and Mary (Von Holtum) Fath.

Joan married Marvin Raymond Winkel on February 24, 1990. The two shared a strong love for nature, so much so that they decided to live on Lake Miltona. Marvin and Joan resided there for the rest of their years together. Throughout the years, Marvin and Joan spent their free time camping, fishing, hunting, and gardening. They took many fishing trips to Chamberlain, South Dakota along the Missouri River. In 1999, they had the trip of a lifetime driving all the way to Alaska. They spent many hours enjoying the view of the lake and the wildlife that came to their yard. After Marvin's death on June 3, 2013, Joan moved to Worthington.

Joan is survived by her son, Rodney (Riley) Viessman, Gary, SD; three grandchildren, Payton (Lauren) Viessman, Clear Lake, SD; Parker fiancée, Brooke) Viessman, Sioux Falls, SD; and Presley Viessman, Sioux Falls, SD; a sister, Rosemary Hoffman, Ivanhoe; and many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; two brothers, Al and Floyd Fath; and a sister, Beaty Hoffman.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 pm Saturday, February 17 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont. Funeral Mass will be 1 pm Saturday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, in Wilmont, officiated by Monsignor Richard Colletti. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Wilmont.
