JOAN M. SLATER, age 75, of Adrian, formerly of Wilmont, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born October 11, 1933, in rural Wilmont, to Henry and Lena (Balster) Slater. She attended school in Wilmont and was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Joan was employed by various families in the area providing housekeeping and child care. She spent three years working in the state of Washington, when a family that employed her was transferred there. Joan also resided for many years in the St. Paul area. In 2006, she moved to the Sanford Care Center, in Adrian, to be close to her family. The Care Center staff & residents will miss Joan as she was famous for ?cruising the halls? in her wheelchair. Joan is survived by her two brothers, Ray (Nelma) Slater, Worthington; and James (Mary) Slater, Worthington; two sisters, Esther Becker, Mesa, AZ; and Arlene (Lyle) Schlichte, Worthington; brother-in-law, Don Schutz, Adrian; a sister-in-law, Del Slater, Inver Grove Heights; and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; step mother Gen Slater; sister, Marie Schutz; brother, Tom Slater.
