JOHN THOMAS GREELEY, age 85, of rural Rushmore, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the Sanford Hospital in Luverne. He was born February 2, 1927, in Ocheyedan, IA, to Louis and Carrie (Marker) Greeley. John moved with his family to rural Rushmore in 1947. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
John married Beverly Mulder on October 17, 1952, this was the first marriage performed at the First Baptist Church in Adrian. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Rushmore area all of their married lives. John retired in 1992. He became a resident of the Parkview Manor Nursing Home on October 13, 2011.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Adrian, where he had served as Deacon, Trustee & Several Committees. John was also a member of the Worthington Farm Bureau and the Farmers United Coop Board in Rushmore. He lived for farming; and he enjoyed tinkering and fixing things.
John is survived by his wife, Beverly Greeley, rural Rushmore; four children, Dennis (Cindy) Greeley, Sherburn; Dale (Chris) Greeley, rural Rushmore; Daletha (Ralph) Goemaat, Sioux Center, IA; and Dawn (Jim) Osterberg, Salem, SD; ten grandchildren, Cathy (Travis) Dahl, Jenny (Luke) Baysinger, Jessica (Jesse) Smallfield, Erin (Buster) Olson, Jessica (Mike) Cook, Travis Greeley, Jennifer (Josh) Powell, Josh (Hannah) Goemaat, Traci Osterberg & Taylor Osterberg; seven great grandchildren, Carter Dahl, Ava Dahl, Madison Baysinger, Ian Baysinger, Allie Cook, Abram Cook & Alivia Powell; two brothers, Glen (Joanne) Greeley, Coon Rapids; and Stanley (Nattie) Greeley, Lafrenzen, TX; and four sisters, Mildred Tjaden, Bloomington, IL; Luella Johnsen, Rushmore; Genevieve (Dick) Poynter, Coon Rapids; and Letha (David) Roth, Coon Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a great granddaughter, Alexis Faith Powell.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian; and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Funeral will be 11 AM Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Adrian, officiated by Revs. Timothy Barr & Marlon Mielke. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery at 1:15 PM on Wednesday.
