John Charles Holcomb, 71, of Worthington, MN died Friday May 13, 2011 at Crossroads Care Center after a long battle with cancer and dementia. John was born on May 17, 1939, in Worthington to Hayes and Lillian (Burnham) Holcomb. He grew up on the family farm in Round Lake Township. After graduating from Round Lake High School in 1957, he served in the United States Navy for four years. John married Ann Larson on December 24, 1960 at Indian Lake Baptist Church. The couple returned to the family farm northeast of Round Lake and farmed until they retired in 1998. They moved to Worthington in 2003. He was a member of the Indian Lake Baptist Church. John was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, camping and golfing. He enjoyed planting trees. He also enjoyed traveling, having spent 12 winters in Arizona. John is survived by: his wife, Ann Holcomb, Worthington; his three daughters, Laura (Bruce) Gjerde, Wilmont, MN; Donna Holcomb, Chesapeake, VA; Joan (Greg) Ebeling, Spencer, IA; and three grand children, Emily, Whitney and Eli Ebeling. He was preceded in death by his parents.
