John Russel Nelson, age 62, of Worthington, died Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at his home. John was born on June 7, 1963 in Minneapolis, MN to Harry and Karen (Robinson) Nelson.

    In 1996, John moved to live on the Red Lake Indian Reservation in northern Minnesota. Living there, John found his love for the Native American traditions and culture and became a collector of various Native Historical items and relics. In 2012, John moved to Worthington Minnesota where he could be closer to his sister and her children.

    John is survived by his brother, Dale Nelson, Sacred Heart, MN; Sister, Ramona Nelson, Worthington, MN; five nieces and nephews, Dale II (Katie) Nelson, Mankato, MN; Christina Nelson, Mankato, MN; Thomas Dalton, Cedar Lake, IN; Andrew Dalton, Adrian, MN; and Caresse (Zach) Schmitz, Brewster, MN; and seven great nieces and nephews, Jamey Wieneke, Brookings, SD; Brooke Wieneke, Adrian, MN; Natalia Wieneke, Adrian, MN; Eliot Dalton-Perez, Adrian, MN; Jaden Schmitz, Brewster, MN; Jaycee Schmitz, Brewster, MN; and Julian Schmitz, Brewster, MN.

    John is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl Nelson and Shane Nelson; and a sister-in-law, Deb Matiak.

    Memorial Service will be at 4 pm on Friday, May 15, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington with visitation one hour prior.
