JOSEPH A. KELLEN, age 82 of Adrian, died Friday, December 29, 2023, at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth, MN. He was born November 9, 1941, in Adrian, to Joseph P. and Ella (Weidert) Kellen. He graduated high school from St. Adrian Catholic School in 1959.
Joe was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Seivert on August 16, 1969 in Elkton, SD. After their marriage, they made their life-long home in Adrian. The couple farmed east of Adrian with Joe's brother, Raymond from 1961 – 1985. Starting in 1985, Joe began working for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. He worked in departments in Marshall, Storden, Windom, Worthington and Luverne. Joe retired in 2007 after working for the DOT for almost 22 years.
He enjoyed many of life's simple things including driving around Adrian, having coffee with friends at Subway, a good Diet Coke, polka music and western shows. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up. He was a life-long member of St. Adrian Catholic Church.
Joe is survived by his four children, Steven Kellen of Adrian, MN; Karen (Jim) Kasper of Woodbury, MN; Susan (John) Beaman of Sioux Falls, SD; and Mark (Kelli) Kellen of Byron, MN; three grandchildren, Olivia Kellen of Byron, MN; Seth and Logan Beaman of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters, Margie Wieneke of Lismore, MN; and Dolores Sieve of Chaska, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen; parents Joseph and Ella Kellen; his brothers, Raphael Kellen and Raymond Kellen; and three sisters, Sister Joanna Kellen, Ida Scheffler, and Sister Louise Kellen.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Thursday, January 4, with parish prayers at 4 pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian; visitation also from 9:30 to 10:15 am Friday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Friday at St. Adrian Catholic Church, in Adrian, officiated by Monsignor Richard Colletti. Burial will be in the St. Adrian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mission Honduras LeMars or the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth.
