JOSEPHINE M. ROBER, age 102, of Luverne, died Saturday, November 5, 2016, at the Lyngblomsten Care Center in St. Paul. She was born October 22, 1914, on a farm near Steen, to Johanes and Grace (Welp) Bergman. She attended District 62 country school near Ellsworth and later graduated from Ellsworth High School. She received her B.S. degree majoring in Elementary Education from the University of Sioux Falls.
Josephine was united in marriage to Charles William Rober on December 26, 1935, at the Ebenezer Presbyterian (State Line) Church, near Ellsworth. After their marriage they made their home in Luverne. Josephine taught school from 1933 to 1976 at Steen, Beaver Creek, Hardwick and Luverne schools.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Luverne, where she was the organist for thirteen years. Josephine taught piano and organ to students from the Luverne area. She also belonged to the Royal Neighbors organization. She enjoyed music, sewing, reading, cooking (sharing baked goods with friends & neighbors) and spending time with her family.
Josephine is survived by her two daughters, Eleanor (Ron) Van Guilder, White Bear Lake; and Kathie (Bryce) Erickson, Minnetonka; three grandchildren, Kyle (Katya) Van Guilder, Dirk (Jennifer) Erickson and Leah (Mike) Berkland; four great grandchildren, Peyton Berkland, Zilya Van Guilder, Zoe Erickson and Whitten Berkland; and many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, in 1987; three brothers, Joe, Enoch & Aneas Bergman; and two sisters, Jennie Wessels & Martha Herman.
Funeral will be 10:30 am Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, in Luverne, officiated by Dr. Rev. Jason Cunningham. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne
