JOSEPHINE I. NELSON, age 87, of Worthington, died, Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota. She was born July 22, 1924 in rural Ellsworth, MN; to parents George and Grace (Meester) Meyeraan. She attended school in Worthington. After her schooling, Josephine was employed at the Worthmore Creamery and then at Campbell Soup Company.
Josephine was married to Selmer (Sam) Nelson on July 3, 1943 in Worthington. The couple made their home in Worthington. She continued to work at Campbell Soup after their marriage and then did babysitting and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington. She enjoyed making homemade quilts, embroidery and baking.
Josephine is survived by her children, Richard A. (Elaine) Nelson, Johnny W. Nelson, Joyce I. Vortherms, Roger P. (Joyce) Nelson all of Worthington; Jerry L. (Judy) Nelson, Windom and Russell J. Nelson, Worthington; 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one step granddaughter; brother, Jim Meyeraan, Worthington; sisters, Susie (Everett) Donaldson, Dell Rapids, SD; Grace Bruns, Worthington and Jane Gunn, Sioux Falls, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Selmer on November 9, 2005; five brothers and one sister; son-in-law, Gerald Vortherms and a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Nelson.
Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington and also on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 10:30 am at the Westminster Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jim Krapf officiating. Burial will be at Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery at a later date for family.
