JOY W. LUPKES, age 90, of Rushmore, died, Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at his home in Rushmore. He was born October 28, 1920 in rural Rushmore to parents John and Neva (Wright) Lupkes. He attended country school in rural Rushmore. After his schooling he worked with his family and worked as a hired hand for various farmers. Joy was united in marriage to Lena Bents on February 23, 1940 in Sibley, IA. After their marriage, the couple farmed south of Rushmore. They moved into Rushmore in 1993. He was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, south of Rushmore holding different offices in the church. Joy enjoyed fishing and playing cards. He also enjoyed playing pool, cards and dice games and loved being with his family. Joy is survived by his son, Richard (Shirley) Lupkes, rural Rushmore; nine grandchildren, Lola Dornfield, Russell (Connie) Lupkes, Jr., Kathy (Howard) Van Otterloo, Lisa (Mark) Van Acker, John (Carla) Lupkes, Amy Lupkes, Mandy Lupkes, Justin (Katie) Lupkes and Joshua (Laura) Lupkes. 19 great-grandchildren and three greatgreat grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lena on December 6, 2003 a son Russell on November 11, 1979 and a brother John.
