(Roelofs) Viessman
February 25, 1937 – October 11, 2022
JOY LUANE VIESSMAN, age 85, of Worthington, died Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Golden Horizons Assisted Living in Worthington. She was born February 25, 1937, in Adrian, to G. Walter and Margaret (Moret) Roelofs. She was raised in Lismore, attended grade school at Lismore, and graduated from Adrian High School in 1955; and Mankato Business College. Joy was united in marriage to Donald W. Viessman on May 20, 1957, at the First Presbyterian Church of Lismore, by Rev. E. D. Pappadackis. Following Don's discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1958, they lived a short time in Adrian and moved to Worthington upon Don's employment at the Worthington Municipal Power Plant and they have lived in Worthington since then. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as Deacon, on the Finance Committee, Stewardship Captain, Sunday School teacher for 12 years, Youth Fellowship Leader, on the Executive Board of Presbyterian Women's Association, Program Committee Chairman, as Sewing/Mission Committee Chairman, Circle Chairman, Usher, Greeter, and delivered Mobile Meal for 21 years. Joy was employed by Worthington School District 518 from 1971 until her retirement in 1994. She worked at West Elementary, Junior and Senior High Schools, and as Secretary to Superintendent of Schools and Board of Education. She was nominated by the schools to receive the "Friend to Education" award. Joy was instrumental in helping to organize the Worthington Regional Hospital Auxiliary in 1972, served as its first Treasurer and as a Lifelong Member. She volunteered in the Physical Therapy Department and Hospital Gift Shop. Joy also loved to travel, she was in Nashville, TN from 1978-1985. With trips to Florida for 20 years, two years hot air ballooning in Albuquerque, NM and trips to Alaska and Hawaii. Joy was devoted and very attentive to her children and grandchildren and loved attending their school and church activities in which they participated. She always looked forward to visiting with the boys and their families and golfing. Joy is survived by her husband, Don Viessman, Worthington; two sons, Bruce (Mary) Viessman, Fargo ND; and Bradley (Cindy) Viessman Hudson WI; five grandchildren, Dan, Waconia, MN; Lisa, and Brian, Fargo, ND; Eric, Hudson. WI; Kevin, New Richmond. WI; five great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; sister-in-law, Jan Roelofs, Minnetonka, MN; brother, Tim (Melba) Roelofs, Sneads Ferry NC; and two nephews and a niece. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Debra Joy (infant) and son, Barry Jay (four and half year old) Viessman; sister, Donna Brunk and brother, H. Morris Roelofs.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday, Oct. 14, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral will be 11 am Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Galen Smith. Burial will be in the Adrian Cemetery.
