Joyce Loretta (Hohensee) Brandt, better known as 'Grandma Joyce', was born on December 13, 1933 in Adrian, Minnesota to Paul and Helen (Stopsack) Hohensee. Joyce passed away peacefully on June 8, 2013 at South Shore Care Center in Worthington, Minnesota. Joyce grew up in Bigelow, Minnesota. She attended Bigelow school thru the 8th grade. Joyce met Bernard Brandt and they were united in marriage on July 23, 1950 at the Bigelow Methodist Church. They had two children, Connie and Bryan. Joyce is a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota. Joyce loved kids, and loved doing things for the kids of Bigelow. She ran the Bigelow skating hall, was the Bigelow Booster President, and transported kids all round in the 'Green Bomber'! The citizens of Bigelow honored her for her commitment to her hometown. She found good in everyone and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She loved bingo and playing the lottery. She also loved cooking, traveling, Diet Coke, Barbies, McDonalds, and garage sales. She worked at Sibley Egg and Poultry until it closed, Petersen's Chicken Processing, the Worthington Coliseum, and at Country View Manor. On the side, Joyce also ran a ceramic shop in Bigelow for several years. After retiring, she volunteered at the WALA School in Bigelow, until she fractured her leg. Then she slowed down, but still had the desire to do things for others. Joyce loved her family; they were her pride and joy. She was the family's rock. Joyce is survived by her two children, Bryan (Lisa) Brandt, Bigelow; and Connie (Al) Reitmeier, Bigelow; five grandchildren, Jodi (Chad) Vogel, & their children, Jack & Ellee; Jason (Stacy) Reitmeier, & their children, Wyatt & Josie; Joni (Ryan) Weber, & their child, Jordis; Zachary Brandt; and Mackenzie Brandt; Joyce was the oldest of three children. She had one brother, Norman Hohensee (sister-in-law, Julie, of Worthington), and one sister, Judy Boneschans, Bigelow; (brother-in-law, Doug). and several nieces and nephews. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Helen (Winchel) Hohensee, step-father, Bernard Winchel, husband, Bernard Brandt, on August 3, 1989, brother, Norman Hohensee, sister-in-law, Marlys Brandt, and brother-in-law, Herbert Brandt.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday, with family present from 5-8 pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and olso one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, in Worthington, officiated by Rev. Joe Behnke. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.
