REV. KENNETH GENE HONIUS, age 80, of Worthington, died Friday, September 23, 2011, at the Sanford Medical Center, Worthington. He was born March 23, 1931, in Cornell, WI, to Oscar and Margaret (Hagen) Honius. After graduating from Cornell High School in 1949, Ken entered the United States Air Force. He served his country until 1952. After graduating from the University of Eau Claire, Ken taught high school English in Park Falls, WI. He then graduated from Dubuque Seminary in Dubuque, IA.
Ken married Patricia "Pat" Anderson on June 29, 1963, in Foley. After their marriage, the couple lived in Mound. Ken was ordained into the ministry on September 20, 1964 in Eau Claire WI. In the fall of 1964, Ken and Pat moved to Wilmont where Ken served as pastor for the First Presbyterian Churches of Wilmont & Lismore. Ken and his family then proceeded to serve Presbyterian churches in Cornell, WI in 1967, Fulda in 1980 and Lisbon, ND in 1993. In 1996, Ken retired and moved to Worthington. In Worthington, he served as pulpit supply, officiated many weddings and funerals, and lead Bible studies.
Ken was a member of the Presbytery of Minnesota Valley; the Fulda American Legion where he had served as Chaplin; the Fulda Lions Club, and Pastor Emeritus at Westminster Presbyterian Church. He served many years as an EMT in Cornell and Fulda. His favorite times were spent with his family. He enjoyed following sports, especially going to his grandchildren's activities. He was a big Packer fan and cheered for the Badgers.
Ken is survived by his wife, Pat Honius, Worthington; three children, Kirk (Michelle) Honius, Worthington; Karmel (Brad) Holinka, Fulda; and Kevin (Cindy) Honius, Minnetonka; nine grandchildren, Mari, Mic & Myah Holinka, Kara, Kody, Karter & Konner Honius, Kaisa Hommer & Lauren Hoel; sister-in-law, Marlis Anderson, Worthington; two nephews, Larry & Bob Stempel; and a niece, Judi Pallaske.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eunice Stempel; daughter-in-law, Marcela Honius and a brother-in-law, Homer Anderson.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Funeral will be 1:30 PM Wednesday at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, in Worthington, officiated by Rev. James Krapf. Burial will be at the Worthington Cemetery.
