KENNETH "BUTCH" RAY SCROGGS, age 70, of St. Kilian, died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born December 20, 1943, in Beresford, SD, to Ray and Cathryn (Chadwick) Scroggs. He graduated from Beresford High School and later attended Jackson Vo-Tech. Ken served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Navy on the USS Hancock CVA-19.
Ken married Frances Engels on September 30, 1962, in Reno NV. After their marriage, the couple lived in various cities in California while Ken was in the service. They moved to St. Kilian in 1971. Ken worked as a mechanic, carpenter, cabinet maker, television repairman and a satellite dish installer for Dish Network.
He was a member of St. Kilian Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus; the Lismore American Legion; and the Sioux Falls VFW. He enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, camping, and watching the Minnesota Vikings.
Ken is survived by his wife, Fran Scroggs, St. Kilian; five children, Pete Scroggs, Leota; Paul (Lisa) Scroggs, Wilmont; Dawn (Bob) Ferra, Las Vegas, NV; Kenneth Scroggs Jr., St. Kilian; and Jackie Scroggs, Mankato; seven grandchildren, Erik (Brittany) Duffy, Destiny Scroggs, Darien Scroggs, Gino Ferra, Tiana Ferra, Bella Ferra & Alexis Scroggs; three great grandchildren, Troy, Kadance & Keaton; and two sisters, Diane (John) Landon, Beresford, SD; and Joelle (Don) Stuessi, Beresford, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
