Obituary

LARRY M. HAUGEN, age 78, of Minneota, died Thursday, April 29, 2010, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. He was born August 27, 1931, on a farm north of Minneota, to Elling and Martha (Blomme) Haugen. His family moved to Illinios in 1941 until 1948 when they moved to Iowa for a short time. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on May 17, 1949. He served in San Antonio, TX, Washington D.C., and Tripoli North Africa until March of 1952. He then served on the Crash Boats by the Golden Gate Bridge near San Francisco. He was honorably discharged on December 1, 1952. Larry was united in marriage to Eunice Pohlen on September 4, 1954, at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Minneota. They lived in the Minneota area all their married lives. He managed the A.B. Tracy Produce in Minneota, sold advertising and bartended at the Brick Manor in Arco. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and listening to old time music. He also enjoyed visiting with people and especially his family. Larry is survived by his wife, Eunice, Minneota; eight children, Larry (Faye) Haugen, Glenwood; Greg (Mary) Haugen, Minneota; Jim (Pam) Haugen, Ashby, MN; Dawn (Don Dahler) Claeys; Apple Valley, MN; John Haugen, Luverne, Dave Haugen, Columbus, OH; Deb (Greg) Laleman, Marshall; Kurt (Julie) Haugen, Luverne; twenty seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; brother, Don (Tina) Haugen, Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Roxanne (Terry) Lundquist, Canby; Mary Ellen (John Harlow)Haugen, St. Paul; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
