Obituary

LaVerne "Vern" Herman Henning, age 80, of Adrian, died Friday, April 30, 2010, at the Sanford Worthington Regional Hospital. He was born February 23, 1930, in Larkin Township, rural Nobles County, to Charles and Clara (Bullerman) Henning. Vern attended St. Adrian Catholic High School, graduating from there in 1948. He entered the United States Air Force in 1948. Vern married Rosalia Reining on October 16, 1950, at St. Adrian Catholic Church. After their marriage, the couple lived in Pickstown, SD where Vern helped build the Ft. Randall Dam. He also worked on a dam in Ogala, KS, before moving back to Adrian in 1951. In Adrian, Vern worked at Galles Hatchery and then Adrian Creamery before going into farming in 1957. The family farmed northwest of Adrian until 2000, moving to their retirement home west of the home place. He was a member of the St. Adrian Catholic Church; and the St. Josephs Society. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, his cows and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Vern is survived by his wife, Rosalia Henning, Adrian; four sons, Joseph (Vicki) Henning, Adrian; Thomas (Carrie) Henning, Lismore; Kenny (Kim) Henning, Pelican Rapids; and Andy (Sara) Henning, Adrian; six daughters, Linda (Tom) Mulder, Osakis; Cathy (Bruce) Mulder, Luverne; Susie (Steve) Bullerman, Adrian; Nancy (Lance) Wieneke, Adrian; Maureen (Kenny) Krogstad, Granite Falls; and Beth (Curt) VanderVeen, Ocheyedan, IA; thirty two grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; four brothers, Virgil Henning and Lester Henning, both of Adrian; Franklin Henning, Sioux Falls, SD; and Alfred Henning, Worthington; six sisters, Rosalia Woltjer, Worthington; Mary Ann Reining, Bertha; Cecelia Altman, Kenneth; Donna Deutsch and Betty Deutsch both of Luverne; and Carol Jean Lupkes, Browersville. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Laverne Jr., in 1969; and a brother, Norb Henning. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday, with parish prayers at 4:15 and Rosary service at 4:30, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian. Visitation also from 9:30 to 10:15 Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral will be 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Adrian Catholic Church, in Adrian, officiated by Frs. Timothy Hall & Gerald Kosse. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
