Obituary

LAWRENCE C. HEIKES, age 85, of Luverne, formerly of rural Adrian, died Sunday, February 28, 2010, at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills. He was born September 13, 1924, in rural Ellsworth, to Peter and Grace (Brommer) Heikes. Lawrence attended country school in rural Ellsworth. He served his country in the United States Navy, during WWII, from 1943 to 1946. Lawrence married Mildred Baal on September 14, 1948, in Ellsworth. After their marriage, the couple farmed northeast of Ellsworth. In 1955, they began farming northeast of Luverne. They moved to the farm southeast of Magnolia in 1957. In May of 1999, they moved to Luverne. He was a former member of the Zion Presbyterian Church, in Ellsworth, where he had served as Deacon, Trustee & Elder. He was a current member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne; and the Polled Hereford Association, where he had held several offices. He enjoyed farming, raising champion bulls & heifers and having coffee and visiting with friends at Glens. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Mildred Heikes, Luverne; three children, Karen (Joe) Loosbrock, Magnolia; Larry (Aloyse) Heikes, Ellsworth; and Lyle Heikes, St. Paul; six grandchildren, Tom (Kristin) Loosbrock, Scott (Lisa) Loosbrock, Brian (Beth) Loosbrock, Danielle (fianc?, Devan Goembel) Loosbrock, Rachel Heikes & Angela Heikes; five great grandchildren, Brianna, Ben, Jack, Carter & Ava Loosbrock; and three sisters, Arlene Groen, Rock Rapids, IA; Mildred (Ralph) Lais, Magnolia; and Ruth Wiertzema, Beverly, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Raymond, Clarence, Elmer, Emmett, Glen & Melvin Heikes; and a sister, Margaret Huisman.
