LENA (FREY) WIERTSEMA, age 90, of Rushmore, MN; died on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at St. John's Lutheran Nursing Home in Albert Lea, MN. She was born March 29, 1924 south of Rushmore, the daughter of Joe and Hattie (Bartholmas) Frey.
Lena was united in marriage to George Wiertsema on September 6, 1942 in Las Vegas, NV. After their marriage the couple lived in California for six years before moving to the Rushmore area. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rushmore, where she served as a deacon. She was also a member of the Rushmore Senior Citizens where she served as treasurer and on the board of directors. Before retiring, Lena worked at Campbell Soup, Safeway Egg Plant in Adrian and for the City of Rushmore. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time at the Rushmore Senior Center.
Surviving are two sons, Harlan (Sharon) Wiertsema, Willow AK; and Roger (SomJet) Wiertsema, Pie town , NM, one daughter, Marilyn (Ray) Hardies, Albert Lea, MN; nine grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George Wiertsema June 21, 1981, one grandchild, seven brothers and six sisters.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington from 5 to 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 10 to 11 am at the funeral home.
The service will be Wednesday at 11 am at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington with Pastor Daniel Dettman officiating. Private family burial will be at Little Rock, IA.
