LEO ANTHONY RASCHE, 92, of Heron Lake, died Monday, October 31, 2022, at the Lakeview Assisted Living in Heron Lake. He was born July 9, 1930, in Heron Lake, to Anthony and Lola (Pratt) Rasche. He attended country school and Heron Lake Catholic School before graduating from Heron Lake High School in 1948. Leo married Rita Rostomily on September 1, 1951, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake. The couple farmed near Heron Lake. Leo entered the United States Army in March of 1953. He served his country, in Germany, during the US Occupation following WWII and during the Korean Conflict. Leo was honorably discharged in December of 1954. The couple moved into Heron Lake in 1956. Leo continued to farm. He also sold seed corn for ACCO and Pioneer along with cutting trees and plowing snow. The couple later divorced. In 1995, he found a lifelong, faithful and loving companion in Pat Hedquist. The couple shared many great experiences including traveling and golfing. Leo was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake; the Heron Lake American Legion; the Okabena Oil Board which later became the Jackson Co. Oil Board; the Heron Lake Hospital Board; the Heron Lake Zoning Board; and served on the Heron Lake City Council from 1971 to 1990. He enjoyed playing basketball and softball, bowling, hunting, and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Leo is survived by his eight children, Vicki (Rich) Hussong, Heron Lake; Wayne (Carmen) Rasche, Heron Lake; Tamara (Stan Bayerkohler) Shelton, Okabena; Terri (Scott) McClure, Lakefield; Marc (Kelly) Rasche, Jackson; Janeen (Curt) Baumgard, Brewster; Cindy (Mark) DeWall, Okabena; and Heath (Jessie) Rasche, Brookings, SD; twenty grandchildren, April Hussong, Carrie (Chuck) Hanson, Stacy Hussong, Martha (Ben) Doll, Andrew (Annie) Rasche, Amber (Luke Prather) Rasche, Adrienna (Ted Esker) Rasche, Shaun Lesch, Summer (Jesse) Stearns, Stephen Lesch, Lee (Melissa) McClure, Mollie (Jay Kopel) McClure, Ryan (Allison) Rasche, Marita (Spencer) Johnson, Dane Baumgard, Bria Baumgard, Kirsten (Corey) Selland, Brooke (Cole) Baumgard, Connor (Chris) Erickson and Caden Rasche; nineteen great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Madsen, Okabena. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister; sister, Irene Clifton; brother, Robert Rasche; two brothers-in-law, Cliff Clifton and Clarence Madsen; and special friend, Pat Hedquist.
Visitation will be Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake. Funeral Mass will be Saturday at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Heron Lake, officiated by Fr. Thien Van Nguyen. Burial with full military honors will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Heron Lake.
