LEOLA MARIE ROGERS, age 80, of Brewster, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011. She was born July 26, 1931 on the family farm in Lakefield, MN. She attended District 17 Country School, St. Peter's parochial school and graduated from Lakefield High School. She then worked at "Hook" Wendt's Café in Lakefield and lived with her sister, Ellen in an apartment on Main Street.
Through her brother Lowell she met Donald Harm Rogers whom she married on May 21, 1950 at St. Peter's Church in rural Lakefield.
Leola was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster, she enjoyed baking, gardening, canning, making baby quilts, graduation quilts, patch quilts (who doesn't have one?) She also enjoyed playing cards with her grandchildren and going to the Senior Center in Brewster. Leola was an avid bowler for twenty-five years.
She especially enjoyed visits from her grandchildren. Her first question was "did you eat?" She always had cookies on hand for the grandkids and would take cookies to Jim's gas station. (They got cookies for pumping her gas.) She also enjoyed visiting with friends and family and watching her grandchildren play sports.
Leola is survived by her seven children, Kevin Rogers, Brewster, MN; Gail Rogers and friend, John Ferguson, Heron Lake, MN; Mavis (Larry) Johnson, Staples, MN; Lorna (Randy) Kruger, Brewster, MN; Glenn (Lisa) Rogers, Brewster, MN; Wayne Rogers, Brewster, MN; and Lori (Randy) McCabe, Albertville, MN; sixteen grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Albert "Abbie" (Marianne) Burmeister, Lakefield, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald on May 20, 2010, two sisters, and four brothers.
