LEONARD DEKKER, age 83, of Worthington, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage, in Worthington. He was born August 26, 1922, near Boyden, IA, to Bastiaan and Martha (Herrewynen) Dekker. He attended Boyden Public School and later, country school near Sheldon, IA. Leonard married Joan Sheel on March 11, 1950. After their marriage, the couple farmed northeast of Reading, for thirty five years, before retiring and moving to Worthington in 1985. He was a member of the American Reformed Church, in Worthington, where he served on Consistory. Leonard was also a Director of the Nobles County Farm Bureau; and a 4-H Leader. He enjoyed attending athletic events, especially when his grandchildren were participating. Leonard is survived by his wife, Joan Dekker, Worthington; four children and their spouses, Peggy & Rev. Gary Dekker, Santa Cruz, Aruba; Karl & Cindy Dekker, Worthington; Martha & Randy Lubben, Reading; and Rev. Janine Dekker, Maitland, Canada; eleven grandchildren, Sgt. Andrew (Crystal) Dekker, Jeannette (George) Hernandez, Sgt. Paul (Joy) Dekker, Christina Dekker, Bradley (Janel) Dekker, James (Tiffany) Dekker, Patty Dekker, Katie Dekker, Jennifer Lubben, Lori Lubben & Amy Lubben; three great grandchildren, Jacen & Jaina Dekker; and Caleb Hernandez; brother, Jacob (Fannie) Dekker, Worthington; and two sisters, Marie Veen, Sanborn, IA; and Nell (Lowell) Dykshoorn, Spencer, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
