LEONE STAEFFLER, age 96, of Luverne, died Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth. She was born September 30, 1916, in Springwater Township, rural Rock County, to Henry and Augusta (Schuldt) Schmuck. She attended school in a one room schoolhouse in Dist. #20 in rural Rock County.
Leone married Irvin Staeffler on July 18, 1934, in Luverne. The couple farmed before moving to Luverne. In 1960, they moved to Long Beach, CA, where Irvin worked at Long Beach State College. Leone was a Homemaker and cleaned houses. Irvin died on October 5, 1983. Leone later moved back to Luverne.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Luverne. She enjoyed crafts, birds, puzzles & gardening.
Leone is survived by her daughter, Mavis Jarchow, Luverne; son, Loren (JoAnn) Staeffler, Rainier, OR; six grandchildren, Kim Bakke, Todd (Sheryle) Bakke, Dave Bakke, Lynn Bakke, Lori Ann (John) Farmer and Brent (Sherri) Staeffler; thirteen great grandchildren; eleven great great grandchildren; and a sister, Delores Strassburg, Luverne.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Irvin; three brothers, Alvin, Elmer & Lester Schmuck; and a sister, Irene Arnold.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Luverne, officiated by Pastor Kristi Franken. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
