LEROY DICK BRUNS, age 85, of Worthington, died Thursday, April 03, 2014, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. He was born July 1, 1928, in Ransom Township, to Dick J. and Tena (Kruse) Bruns. He attended Dist. #69 country school and graduated from Worthington High School. LeRoy farmed west of Rushmore. He entered the United States Army in 1953 and served his country during the Korean Conflict at Ft. Lewis in Washington. He was honorably discharged in 1955. LeRoy was very proud of his service to his country. After his discharge, he returned to the farm west of Rushmore.
LeRoy married Donna Lindemann on January 5, 1956, in Rushmore. The couple farmed west of Rushmore until 1972 when they moved to the farm south of Wilmont. He retired in 1993; and moved to Worthington in 1996. They moved to The Meadows in June of 2013.
He was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, in Rushmore, for over fifty four years serving in many offices. In 2010, LeRoy became a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington. He was also a member of the Worthington American Legion. He loved farming and enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, collecting farm toys, practical jokes and teasing his grandchildren with his wonderful sense of humor.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Donna Bruns, Worthington; seven children, Charlene (Brent) Wintz, Round Lake; Cheryl Schreiner, South St. Paul; Cindy (Bruce) Stuntebeck, Yakima, WA; Connie (Jeff) Upton, Yakima, WA; Colette (Greg) Keeton, Yakima, WA; Jerald (Cindi) Bruns, Elk River; and Thomas (Jerri) Bruns, Elko, NV; sixteen grandchildren, Kara (Simon) Schmitz, Trevor (Chelsea) Wintz, Elizabeth (Greg) Troje, Sarah (Dave) Mullen; Dylan Stuntebeck, Marley Upton, Madison (Caleb) Johnson, Taylor Keeton, Joey Keeton, Travis Smith, Moriah Bruns, Michaela Bruns, Melea Bruns, Brittany (Lassen) Sharp, Shelby Bruns & Casey Bruns; five great grandchildren, Sydney, Dominic, Kaylee, Abigail & Addison; a sister, Erma Wick, Worthington; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and five sisters.
