Obituary

LEROY FOIGHT, age 80, of Luverne, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. He was born May 4, 1928, in Virdene, IL, to Lawrence and Pearl (Fox-Sheppard) Foight. Leroy attended school in Luverne. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Leroy married Marian Anderson on September 17, 1949. After their marriage, the couple lived in South Dakota before moving to Luverne in 1951. Leroy drove truck for Northern States Poultry, in Luverne, and later for Murphy Motor Freight in Worthington. He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, in Luverne; the Luverne VFW; and the Luverne American Legion. He thoroughly enjoyed living at the Minnesota Veterans Home and also enjoyed going on their outings. Leroy is survived by his five children, Mary Sites, Luverne; Kay Bierma, Mankato; Laurie (Roger) Wenzel, Mitchell, SD; Kevin (Missy) Foight, Windom; and Sarah Foight, Windom; twelve grandchildren, Steve (Pat) Smedsrud, Cindy (Troy) Veld, Kellie (fianc?e, Kelly) Smedsrud, Billie Steuerwald, Bobbi Steuerwald, Susan Robinson, Michael Foight, Bill Foight, Katryna Damgaard, Kristi Damgaard, Andrew (Amy) McCheski & Jason Bierma; fourteen great grandchildren; and a brother, Russell (Peggy) Foight, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marian, on July 30, 1998; granddaughter, Victoria Damgaard; great grandson, Tyler Veld; and a brother, Lloyd Foight.
