Obituary

LeROY F. GONNERMAN, age 84, of Luverne, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne. He was born August 31, 1925, in Sheldon, IA, to Roy and Florence (Pepper) Gonermann. LeRoy was baptized on August 18, 1935 and was confirmed on July 13, 1941 at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. He attended country school in Luverne. At the age of thirteen, LeRoy worked at Luverne Livestock for Lloyd Long. He entered the United States Navy in 1944 and served his country during WWII before being honorably discharged in June of 1946. LeRoy married Harriet Martin on November 26, 1947, at St. John Parsonage in Luverne. After their marriage, the couple lived in Luverne. LeRoy worked at MJ McKeey Roofing until purchasing the business in 1956. He then worked part time for Burdell Rowe at the sale barn. He later worked for Howard Schmidt Farms, in Luverne, feeding cattle & raising chickens. For the past eleven years, LeRoy worked for area farmers. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne; the Rock County Fair Board; the Rock County Saddle Club; and a lifetime member of the Luverne VFW. He enjoyed breaking & showing horses with his children & grandchildren and going downtown for coffee. LeRoy is survived by his wife, Harriet Gonnerman, Luverne; six children, Terry (Dianne) Gonermann, Luverne; David (Charney) Gonnerman, Belgrade, MT; Leigh Ann (Dale) Remme, Luverne; Donald (Barb) Gonnerman, Rushmore; Ronald (Mary Lou) Gonnerman, Luverne; and Craig (Becky) Gonnerman, Luverne; eighteen grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; brother, Marvin (Margaret) Gonnerman, Luverne; and three sisters, Dorothy Ann (George) Koens, Luverne; Ruth (Arlyn) McClure, Luverne; and Marlys (Les) Kleinke, Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Michael James, in 1967; and a brother, Douglas. A tree will be planted in memory of LeRoy Gonermann, by Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne.
