LeROY EDWARD HURLBURT, age 86, of Worthington, died Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington. He was born May 4, 1925, in Nelson, WI, to David and Addie Hurlburt. He attended school in Nelson, IA. LeRoy entered the United States Army on September 8, 1942. He served his country during WWII, including the Normandy invasion, and was separated from the service on March 14, 1947.
LeRoy married Marcella Hove on December 10, 1945, in Cannon Falls. The couple lived in various cities including Winona, Red Wing and Lakefield. They moved to Worthington in 1967. LeRoy was a dedicated truck driver. He drove for many companies before retiring in 2000.
He was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Worthington; and the Worthington VFW. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, fishing, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Marcella Hurlburt, Worthington; eight children, Dennis Hurlburt, San Jose, CA; Dick (Debbie) Hurlburt, Sioux Falls, SD; Diane (Steve) DeGroot, Worthington; Nancy (Gary) Prochaska, Worthington; Pat (Jeff) Klumper, Sioux Falls, SD; Mike (Sheila) Hurlburt, Worthington; Mary (Larry) Harsma, Rushmore; and Shannon Briggs, Sioux Falls, SD; nineteen grandchildren; and twenty seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ethel Brieding; and four brothers, Art, Ray, Louie & Herbert Hurlburt.
Visitation will be from 2-4 PM Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral will be Monday at 10:30 AM at the American Lutheran Church, in Worthington, officiated by Rev. Ryan Radtke. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery in Worthington.
