LESTER "LES" LEONARD HENNING, age 88, of Adrian, died Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the Sanford Worthington Medical Center. He was born July 25, 1936, in Lismore, to Charles and Clara (Bullerman) Henning. His father died in the fall of 1940. A year later, his mother moved her family of twelve to a farm northeast of Adrian which they bought before Charles's death. Les graduated from St. Adrian High School in 1955. He was the last of six brothers to take over the family farm. He served in the South Dakota Air National Guard from 1958 to 1964. Les married the love of his life, Sandra Bunkers on November 25, 1965. They raised their family of four on the farm they purchased in 1973. He was a member of St. Adrian Catholic Church. Les enjoyed singing in the church choir. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight. Les is survived by his wife, Sandy Henning, Adrian; four children, Terri (Steve) Elias, Adrian; Charles (Jolene) Henning, Adrian; Lon (Dora) Henning, Sioux Falls, SD; and Heidi (Jim) Yakas, Orland Park, IL; ten grandchildren, Alex (Mackenzie) Elias, Justin (Alissa) Elias, Ryan Elias, Ben (Ashley) Henning, Brady (MacKenzie) Henning, Brock Henning, Eva Henning, Zac Henning, Michael Yakas and Norah Yakas; three great-grandchildren, Levi & Kolton Schilling, and Brooks Elias; two brothers, Hap (Arlene) Henning, Brandon, SD; and Alfred Henning, Worthington; two sisters, Donna Deutsch, Luverne; and Betty Deutsch, Luverne; and two sisters-in-law, Rosalia Henning, Adrian; and Loretta Henning, Sioux Falls, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Norbert (Carol) Henning, LaVerne and Frank Henning; and four sisters, Rosalia (Nick) Woltjers, Mary Ann (Robert) Reining, Cecelia (Glen) Altman and Carol Jean (Francis) Lupkes.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, with parish prayers at 5 pm, Sunday, Sept. 8 at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian. Visitation also from 9:30 to 10:15 am Monday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Monday at St. Adrian Catholic Church, in Adrian, officiated by Monsignor Richard Colletti. Burial will be in the St. Adrian Cemetery.
