LESTER HARLEY SCHMUCK, age 79, of Luverne, died Saturday, March 10, 2007, at the Select Specialty Heart Hospital, in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born October 19, 1927, in Springwater Township, rural Rock County, to Henry F. and Augusta (Schuldt) Schmuck. Les attended country school in District #20 in Springwater Township. He served his country as a Medic in the United States Army during WWII. After returning from the service, Les farmed with his parents in Springwater Township. Les married Doris Collings on October 19, 1966, at the First Presbyterian Church, in Luverne. After their marriage, the couple lived in Luverne, where Les worked at various jobs including Luverne Fire Apparatus; and McClure Electric until becoming self employed as a painter in 1969. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Luverne; and the Luverne American Legion. Les enjoyed listening to the Minnesota Twins & volunteering at the Minnesota Veterans Home. He especially enjoyed fishing with his grandson, Christopher. Les is survived by his wife, Doris Schmuck, Luverne; five children and their spouses, Gerald & Linda Schmuck, Gulfport, MS; Charlene Franco, Glendale, AZ; Wanda & Gary Johnson, Colorado Springs, CO; Jack Kruger, Valley Springs, SD; and Janelle & Doug Bolt, Luverne; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Delores Strassburg, Kenneth; and Leone Staeffler, Luverne; and two sisters-in-law, Alice Schmuck, Longview, WA; and Kate Schmuck, Sioux Falls, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alvin & Elmer Schmuck; and a sister, Irene Arnold.
