LLOYD E. SLYKHUIS, age 80, of Brewster, died Sunday, December 9, 2007 at Maplelawn Nursing Home, Fulda. He was born January 8, 1927, in Corsica, SD, to Martinus and Jennie (Kiel) Slykhuis. Lloyd attended school in Corsica, SD. He served his country in the United States Army, during WWII in the Pacific Theater, from April 16, 1945 to October 25, 1946. Lloyd married Margaret Greise on November 20, 1948, in Melvin, IA. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Melvin, IA, Harris, IA & Sioux Valley, MN, before retiring from farming in the mid 1980?s and moving to Worthington. In 2000, they moved to Brewster. He was a member of The First Presbyterian Church, in Brewster; and the Brewster American Legion Post #464. Lloyd stayed active after his retirement. He enjoyed driving for Medi-Van & Peoples Express. He also managed the CVA Apartments & Inn Town Apartments, in Worthington and was custodian of the Brewster American Legion & worked at Wal-Mart. Lloyd was a people person. He loved bowling and playing cards with his friends. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Margaret Slykhuis, Brewster; five children and their spouses, Curtis & Karen Slykhuis, Mitchell, SD; Mary & Gary Stam, Estherville, IA; Illene & Forrest Maxwell, Omaha, NE; Carol & Michael Naumann, Brewster; and Susan & Dennis Larsen, Lakefield; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Altha Brink, Rapid City, SD; Linda Bordewyk, Corsica, SD; and Mabel DeBoer, Stickney, SD; and special friends, Larry & Geneva Schwarting, Storden. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and a sister. In lieu of flowers, memorial are preferred.
