Lois Carol (Rehborg) Bremer, age 76, of Ocheyedan, died Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. She was born April 19, 1950 to Albert and Viola (Vosberg) Rehborg in Worthington, MN. She was welcomed by 3 brothers; Calvin, Herbert and Norman. She in turn welcomed her brother, Roger and sister, Doris. Lois was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church rural Ocheyedan. Lois was a lifelong member of Zion. She grew up on a farm north of Ocheyedan; attended public school and Zion Lutheran School and graduated with Tom from Ocheyedan High School in 1968.

   Lois played teacher from an early age to an imagery classroom on the front porch of her house; hot or cold weather. Lois attended and graduated from Concordia College in St. Paul, MN in Feb., 1972 with a BA in Elementary Ed.; fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. Lois worked her way through college in the Audio Visual Department. She went on to teach elementary students in Melvin, IA and Zion Lutheran School., Ocheyedan.

   In 1985 she took a break from teaching fulltime and answered a newspaper ad to work at Lakeview School (Dist 518) in Worthington as an Independent Living Assistant helping young adults with special needs. Soon Lois was also doing substitute and summer school teaching for ;Lakeview. Her work with special needs children led Lois at age 49, to go back to college and earn her Endorsement in Special Education from Morningside College in Sioux City. This was no easy task as she travelled to Sioux City in the summer and nights to Sheldon and Spencer. Lois taught special needs students for two years at the Middle School in Worthington and two years in Adrian, MN. She worked one year as a paraprofessional at the Alternative School before teaching special needs for eleven years at the Senior High in Worthington. Lois retired in 2015 after 42 years in education in various capacities. Lois especially enjoyed teaching reading and Life Skills to her Special Needs students.

   Lois and Tom were blessed in 1986 with Eric. Even with her busy schedule, Lois and Eric had many adventures especially the trip to WI to visit friends. She especially enjoyed sharing her love of reading and baking with Eric.. Eric had a strong interest in old machinery and threshing. Over the years, Tom and Lois went to watch Eric run steam engines and thresh.

   Lois enjoyed “cousin” reunions and meeting friends to visit. Lois would like to be remembered for her love of baking; which she enjoyed sharing with others, her flowers and plants, walking and her dogs. She loved playing cards and games with her students and extended family. 

   Lois was a reader; especially historical fiction. The library was a favorite place. Tom joked that they couldn’t get out of Worthington with a stop at the library.

   Lois became a member of Wood-Miller 326 Legion Auxiliary when she retired; serving as VP and President for several years. She served on the REC Scholarship Committee for many years.

   She was a very active part of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League for over 40 years. She was VP for many years and became President after retirement. Lois attended many District Conventions serving as a delegate. She attended 5 National Conventions and served as a delegate at two. In the past she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. When Zion became a part of a Tri -Parish, she organized the Saturday night suppers during the months of January-March “just as a social get-together”. After she was diagnosed with Lymphoma, Lois took a year off, but continued to help the other ladies. Her church work was a very special part of her life. She had a strong faith, and new Jesus as her Savior.

   Although Lois and Tom Bremer were neighbors forever; and classmates, they did not start dating till Tom was in the Army and Lois was in college. When Tom was in the second grade, his father told him that Lois would be the girl he married some day. And so it was on August 5, 1972 they married at Zion Lutheran Church. They lived several places before moving with baby Eric to the original Bremer homestead in August, 1986 after Tom’s father passed away unexpectedly.

   In November, 2023, Lois was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphona. She fought back and endured many rounds of chemotherapy and a round of radiation. She fought hard, but God was determined to call her home.

   Lois is survived by her husband, Tom of 53 years ; son, Eric (Tammy), grandchildren, Sydney, Blake and Weston of Brewster, MN; brothers; Calvin (Ruth) Rehborg, Worthington, MN; Norman Rehborg, Fulda, MN; and sister, Doris Halls of Tilton, IL.; brother-in-law, Joel; nieces, nephew, and extended family .

   She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; brothers, Herbert and Roger; sister-in-law, Carol Rehborg; in-laws, Ronald and Lorna Bremer; three brothers-in-law, Tim, David, and Fred; and two nephews.

   A time of fellowship will be from 5-7 pm Tuesday, June 23 at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. Memorial service will be 10:30 am Wednesday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, IA. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Ocheyedan, IA.

Although Lois loved plants and flowers, she would prefer that the memorial go as a gift to Lutheran Women's Missionary League, or Tracy Museum.
