LORETTA MARY GENGLER, age 85, of Adrian, died Friday, August 28, 2015, at the Adrian Care Center. She was born August 7, 1930, in Brocksburg, NE, to Francis and Rose (Timmerman) Higgins. She attended country school before graduating from St. Mary Boarding School in O'Neil, NE. Loretta graduated from the McKennan School of Nursing and went on to become a surgical nurse at the McKennan Hospital. She later worked in Texas at a polio sanitarium.
Loretta married Paul C. Gengler on February 4, 1954, at Little Flower Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, SD. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Iona. In 1962, they moved to the farm north of Adrian. They retired and moved to Adrian in 1991.
She was a member of St. Adrian Catholic Church; the WCCW; the Catholic Daughters; the Arnold Memorial Hospital Pink Ladies; and delivered Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed quilting, canning, gardening, crafts and making wine.
Loretta is survived by her two sons, Brian (Joyce) Gengler, Adrian; and Lyle (Judy) Gengler, Caribou, ME; six grandchildren, Aleta (Craig) VanderBeek, Emily Hutchinson, Rev. Sarah Gengler, Maria (Matt) Nulle, Kevin (Jenny) Gengler, and Allen (Becky) Gengler; two step grandchildren, Amy (Paul) Ouellette & Ann (Matthew) Ellis; twelve great grandchildren, Donald, Madyson, Rebekka, Kalette, Olivia, Matthew, Mason, MicKayla, Emma, Katie, Lindsey & Lexie; sister, Delores Schock, Bloomfield, NE; a sister-in-law, Benetta (Roger) Roth, Spencer, NE, brother-in-laws Gordon Gengler and Jack (Gisella) Gengler, Sioux Falls, SD, William Murphy, Salem, VA, sister-in-laws Marie Schneider, Worthington, MN, Marcella Gengler, Luverne, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul, on March 10, 1999; daughter, Gail Marie Gengler, on October 7, 1980; a brother, Patrick Higgins, on May 12, 1973; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and three nephews.

Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian; and also from 9:30 to 10:15 am at the funeral home on Saturday. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Saturday at St. Adrian Catholic Church, in Adrian, officiated by Fr. Andrew Beerman. Burial will be in the St. Adrian Cemetery.
