Obituary

LORRAINE CHRISTINA BALSTER, age 92, of Worthington, formerly of Wilmont, died Saturday, October 30, 2010, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington. She was born July 13, 1918, on the family farm west of St. Kilian, to Joseph J. and Clara H. (Schlichte) Bruns. She attended school at St. Kilian Catholic School. Lorraine married Lawrence George Balster on October 16, 1945, at St. Kilian Catholic Church. After their marriage, the couple lived in Wilmont where Lorraine, along with Marge Balster, operated the Wilmont Caf?. The family later moved to the farm southeast of Wilmont. In 1962, they moved back to Wilmont. In the Fall of 2007, Lorraine moved to the Meadows in Worthington. In the Spring of 2009, she moved to Crossroads Care Center. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont; the WCCW; the Catholic Daughters of America; the VFW Ladies Auxiliary; the Wilmont Boosters Club; and the CCSI. She enjoyed bowling, reading, quilting, crocheting, knitting, gardening, golfing, walking, biking and playing cards. Lorraine is survived by her six children, Shirley Gengler, Prior Lake; Alan (Sharon) Balster, Wilmont; Daryl (Cindy) Balster, Wilmont; Roger (Pam Peterson) Brandon, SD; Barbara (Daniel) Snyder, Burnsville; and Duane Balster, Worthington; nine grandchildren, Michael (Seaneen) Gengler, Scott (Lori) Gengler, Joshua Balster, Amy (Nathan) Groninga, Troy Balster, Stacey Balster, Ashley Balster, Anna (Matthew) Witham, and Matthew (Erin) Snyder; twelve great grandchildren; brother, Donald (Louise) Bruns, Dead Lake; and three sisters, Inez Balster, Worthington; Eileen Hibma, Mankato; and Nelma Slater, Worthington. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence, in 1971; son-in-law, David Gengler; three brothers, Alver, Raymond & Robert Bruns; and an infant sister, Marylyn. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday with a rosary service at 4 pm and parish prayers at 7 pm, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont. Visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Tuesday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, officiated by Fr. Timothy Hall. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Wilmont. Memorials are preferred to the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. Dingmann Funeral Home, in Wilmont, is in charge of arrangements.
