LOUIS "LOUIE" MILTON LOGER, age 82, of Luverne, died Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at his home. He was born February 8, 1931, in rural Lyon County, IA, to Tom and Helen (Buss) Loger. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Marines.
Louie married Janelle Klinkenborg on January 6, 1952, in George, IA. While Louie was in the service, the couple lived at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA. In 1954, they moved to Rock Rapids. They moved to The State Line Farm in 1956 and in 1968 moved to the current farm west of Kanaranzi.
He was baptized & confirmed at the State Line Presbyterian Church, serving as church Treasurer, Trustee & Elder. He was later a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Luverne, where he served as a Deacon. Louie enjoyed family & friends, pinochle, golf & volunteering. He was a longtime Luverne Lion Club Member and ran the lunch wagon. The Lions recognized his volunteer work with the Melvin Jones Award. Louie served the Dell-Hogan American Legion Post as Commander and Bingo Gambling Manager. For years he flipped pancakes at the Legion fundraisers. He was honored by the American Legion as the Minnesota Outstanding Volunteer in 2007. Louie was a Clinton Township Supervisor; and was the 2003 Rock County Outstanding Senior Citizen.
Louie is survived by his two sons, Steven Loger, Burnsville; and Craig Loger, Victoria; four grandchildren, Christian (Andi) Loger, Lakeville; Anne Loger, Eden Prairie; Laura Loger, St. Louis Park; and Jessica Loger, St. Louis Park; and three great grandchildren, Lucas, Grace & Caleb Loger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janelle on June 7, 2012; and three brothers, Rich, Ray& Glen Loger.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Funeral will be 1 pm Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, in Luverne, officiated by Rev. Jason Cunningham & Rev. Tom Vogt. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne with full military honors provided by the Luverne American Legion & VFW.
