LOWELL WAYNE JONES, age 90, of Worthington died Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda. He was born on April 13, 1925 in Huron, SD; to parents Richard Milton and Pauline (Pietz) Jones. He grew up in Huron, SD and attended country school. He then moved with his family to Worthington and graduated from Worthington High School in 1943. After graduating, Wayne farmed with his dad.
On May 26, 1949 he was united in marriage to Jean Jansen. After their marriage Wayne and Jean made their home in Worthington. Wayne owned and operated Berreau and Jones Mobil Oil Company in Worthington.
Wayne was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Worthington. He taught Sunday school and was active in the church. He also delivered meals on wheels and was a member of the Kiwanis. In his earlier years, Wayne enjoyed playing golf at the Country Club and was an avid bowler. He enjoyed traveling with Jean on bus trips throughout the United States. The couple also had the opportunity to travel to Crailsheim, Germany. He also enjoyed and completed crossword puzzles on a daily basis. Wayne especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Wayne is survived by his two children, Randy Jones, Winona, MN; Laurie (Mike) Lubbers, Webster City, IA; daughter-in-law, Pam Jones, Worthington; sister, Florence Tillman, Granada Hills, CA; sister-in-law, Barbara Hinrichs, Denton, TX; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Bousema, Jeff Jones (special friend, Kathie Black) Tom Jones (fiancé Jana Hovden), Joshua Lubbers and Melanie Jones McMillan, four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Alyssa, Erica and Angela Bousema.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean on March 18, 2010, son Rick on May 17, 2013, granddaughter, Sarah Michelle Lubbers, brothers, Percy, Floyd, Clarence, Ralph, Lee and Victor; sisters, Beulah Fuglsang and Maxine Carlson.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church. The funeral service will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington, with the Dr. Rev. Daren Flinck officiating. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.
