LUCILLE VERNA (POPPEN) MALGET, age 86, of Luverne, formerly of Worthington, died Friday, January 4, 2013, at the Minnesota Veterans Home, in Luverne, where she had been a resident since 2005. She was born April 20, 1926, in Sibley, IA, to Benjamin and Elsie (Bruns) Poppen. Lucille attended country school at Holman Township Dist #5. After high school, she moved with her parents to Worthington where she met George Malget.
Lucille & George were married on January 23, 1947, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Worthington. They were blessed with four children, Linda, Randall, Catherine & Virginia. Lucille & George lived in Worthington most of their sixty one years of marriage. During this time Lucille worked at various jobs, including Campbell's Soup Co., Worthington Best Western Motel and Sather's, before retiring in 1988.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Worthington, St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne and the Worthington VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Lucille enjoyed baking angel food cakes, embroidery, visiting the casino and playing bingo. She especially enjoyed visits from family & friends.
Lucille is survived by her two daughters, Catherine (Lynn) Queensland, Spring Valley; and Virginia Hagen, LeRoy; two grandsons, & three great grandchildren, James (Amie) Queensland, Evan, Reese & Grant of Antioch, IL; and Michael (Elizabeth Jones-Queensland) Queensland of Madison, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George, in 2008; daughter, Linda, in 1960; son, Randall, in infancy; and a sister, Ardyce Poppen.
Visitation will be from 5-7pm Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Funeral will be 2pm Wednesday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, in Luverne, officiated by Fr. Thomas Jennings. Burial will be at a later date at St. Mary Cemetery in Worthington.
