MAE O. McCLURE, age 91, of Luverne, died peacefully Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage surrounded by family. She was born October 23, 1925, on the family farm outside of Holme City, MN, to Martin and Olga (Lindberg) Johnson. She attended a country school near Holme City. After school, Mae got a job as a waitress in Hoffman, MN. Later, she worked at a defense plant in Minneapolis during the war effort. She then moved back to Hoffman where she met and married Homer McClure on August 10, 1949.
In 1954, the couple moved to Kenneth where they owned & operated a trucking business and café. In 1956, they moved to Magnolia. Mae worked at the Magnolia Steakhouse for several years before being hired at the Magnolia School as a cook.
She was a former member of the Kenneth Lutheran Church; a current member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne; the Luverne VFW Ladies Auxiliary; the Hardwick American Legion Auxiliary; and the Luverne Eagles Club. She enjoyed camping, games, cooking and collecting recipes.
Mae is survived by her son, Jerry (Danette) McClure, Magnolia; daughter-in-law, Katie McClure, Luverne; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by his parents; husband, Homer, on February 14, 2001; infant daughter, Penny in 1951; two sons, James in 1987; and Ron in 2015; granddaughter, Cierra McClure in 1992; two brothers, Del & Floyd McClure; and a sister, Yvonne Gunderson.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, in Luverne, officiated by Pastor Jason Cunningham. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
