Obituary

MAGDALENA "LENA" HELEN BACHMEIER, age 84, of St. Paul, MN, died after a short battle with cancer Monday, August 24, 2015, surrounded by her family, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington. She was born April 2, 1931, to Joseph and Lucy (Heintz) Ziegler, in Minot, ND. She attended The School for the Deaf in Devils Lake, ND, and graduated in 1950.
Lena married Anton "Tony" Bachmeier on June 26, 1950, at Blumenfeld Catholic Church, in rural Orrin, ND. The couple farmed in Granville from 1950 until 1961, when they moved to Minot. In 1965, Lena and Tony moved to Burlington. Lena began work in the housekeeping department at St. Joseph's Hospital in 1968 and remained there until her retirement in 1991, at which time she moved to Gillette, WY. Lena moved to Minnesota in 1995, residing in Marshall until 2002, when  she left  rural life and moved to the metro Minneapolis/St. Paul areas. She became a resident of the South Shore Care Center in August of 2015.
She enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, playing cards with her family and bingo.
Lena is survived by her seven children, Robert (Paula) Bachmeier, Burlington, ND; Linda (Doug) Fletcher, Rapid City, SD; Gerry Bachmeier, Rapid City, SD; Gerilyn Erb, Minot, ND; Colleen (Kevin) Sigety, Harrisburg, SD; Carolyn Slattery, Gillette, WY; and Josie (Marty) LeBrun, Adrian, MN; seventeen grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; one great great grandson; four brothers, John Ziegler, Jamestown, ND; Anton (Diane) Ziegler, Peoria, AZ; Joe (Cindy) Ziegler, Naples, FL; and LeRoy Ziegler, Phoenix, AZ; and four sisters, Elizabeth Reider, Drake, ND; Jennie Bachmeier, Bismarck, ND; Bertha (Richard) Scofield, New Brighton, MN; and Agnes Klein, Minot, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tony on August 21, 1982; infant granddaughter, Sarah Bachmeier; son-in-law, Scott Erb; brother, Richard Ziegler; infant brother, George Ziegler; and two brothers-in-law, Henry Reider; and Lawrence Bachmeier.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 am Saturday, September 19, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Foxholm, ND; with a time of fellowship one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial of cremains will be at the Rosehill Cemetery in Minot, ND at a later date.
A Memorial Service will be Sunday, September 27, at 1 pm at the Bread of Life Lutheran Church for the Deaf in Minneapolis; with a time of fellowship one hour prior to the service at the church.
