MARGARET ?PEGGY? KNAPPER, age 65, of Worthington, died at the Good Samaritan Communities in Windom on Wednesday, July 3, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on October 1, 1942, to parents Frederick and Charlotte (Glueckert) Kinstle in Dayton, OH. Her parents died at a young age and at that time she went to live with her sister Janet and her husband Alan. Alan was in the military and was later stationed in Germany. At the age of 16, Peggy moved to Germany and attended school in Germany and graduated from Vogelweh High School in Germany. In 1962 Peggy joined the U.S. Army as a medical nurse. She was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. It was here that she met her former husband. On January 19, 1963 she was united in marriage to Don Knapper in San Antonio, TX. After serving her time in the military, the couple moved to Pipestone, MN and Peggy worked as a nurse?s assistant at the Pipestone Hospital. In 1970, they moved to Lubbock, TX and she also found employment at the hospital. In 1971 the couple moved to Security, CO and Peggy provided daycare in her home. In 1973 they moved to Humboldt, IA and her husband had a Schwans route and Peggy assisted with inventory and bookkeeping. In 1979 the couple moved to Balaton, MN and Peggy was employed as a nurse?s aid and a medi aid for the Balaton Nursing Home. In 1987 Peggy moved to Worthington to attend Worthington Community College to pursue her R.N. Degree and graduated in 1989. After graduating, she was dedicated to the nursing field and worked as the Director of Nurses for the South Shore Care Center, Assistant DON for the Good Samaritan in Luverne, the MDS Coordinator for the Lakeview Nursing Home in Heron Lake and taught the nurses aid course at Worthington Community College for eighteen years. In April of 2004, Peggy was diagnosed with cancer and retired at the age of 62. Peggy enjoyed traveling, especially in Germany and throughout Europe. She had a passion for history and architecture. She also enjoyed writing poetry, beadwork, reading, auctions, collecting antique jewelry, art, especially painting, museums, opera music and musicals, collecting rocks and seashells and anything relating to nature. She was a Girl Scout leader and had a great passion for teaching. But most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her dog. Peggy is survived by Don Knapper, Balaton: and their four children, Jody Knapper, Windom; Terry Knapper, Brookings; Lisa Knapper, Windom; and Amy Knapper, Worthington; four grandchildren, Andre, Isaac, Julian and Brooklyn; three sisters, Joan Trame, Dayton, OH; Janet (Alan) Stout, Beaver Creek, OH; Judith Stahl, Lubbock, TX, one brother, Fred (Sharon) Kinstle, Dayton, OH, her best friend Terry Hopkins and the family member that was always by her side until the end, her dog, Buffy. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Melvin Kinstle.
