MARGARET MARIE RUESCH, age 99, of Worthington, died Friday, October 18, 2013, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington. Margaret was born December 29, 1913, in rural Reading, to George and Frieda (Licht) Nickel. She was baptized on January 25, 1914; and confirmed on May 20, 1928 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington. She graduated from Reading High School.
Margaret married Robert H. Ruesch on April 3, 1932, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Elk Township for ten years. In 1943, they began farming north of Worthington. They moved to the farm north of the home place in 1972. Margaret moved to the Golden Horizons in 2004; and became a resident of the Crossroads Care Center in 2008.
She was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. Margaret was a musician. She learned to play the accordion without any formal training and could play almost any tune by ear. She enjoyed her grandchildren & great grandchildren. Margaret loved to bake. She was known for her homemade bread, turkey & dressing. Margaret & Robert enjoyed traveling with People to People Tours overseas.
Margaret is survived by her five children, LaVonne Perrott, Sun City West, AZ; Larry (Peg) Ruesch, Worthington; Leola (Louis) Remmers, Heron Lake; Norma (Leonard) Eigenberg, Heron Lake; and Leonard (Marjorie) Ruesch, Worthington; sixteen grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; a great great grandson; brother, Arvid (Pauline) Nickel, Worthington; and a brother-in-law, Walter (Minnie) Ruesch, Fulda.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert H., in 1992; granddaughter, Andrea Ruesch, in 2009; granddaughter-in-law, Darla Remmers; and three brothers, Carl, Ray & Alvin Nickel.
