IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret
Sanny
June 14, 1925 – January 5, 2011
Margaret P. Sanny Died January 5, 2011, at the Hospice Cottage after a lengthy battle with brain cancer. Born June 14, 1925, to Earl and Ella VosBurgh in San Pedro, California. Notably, she was born in a hospital that was in the final stages of construction and was the first baby born there. She was an accomplished student and attended UCLA. Margaret met Bob Sanny when he was in the Navy and stationed in California. They married on April 19, 1945, and moved to Minnesota following Bob's discharge. There she showed the strength of a southern California girl who jumped from city living to living and working on a family farm. Margaret, Bob, and their children made several moves in the 50's, returning to southern California for several years. They moved to Luverne in 1960 and lived there since that time. Margaret had a wonderful sense of humor, an adventurous spirit, a hot temper when riled, and was a very loyal and helpful friend. She was very involved in volunteer work with developmentally disabled adults in Luverne for many years and with the residents at the Mary Jane Brown Home. She was a champion of the less advantaged and was known to slip money into the hand of someone she met at McDonald's who she thought could use a meal or a tank of gas. She befriended the friendless and championed many causes. Margaret was a volunteer "book n' buddy" with the Luverne Grade School and it was a highlight of her life in her later years. Margaret leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Barbara (Vernon) Long, of Racine, Wisconsin, her son, Robert Sanny, Jr., of Ashland, Oregon, and her son, David (Kariann) Sanny of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Adam (Daphne) Honore, Sarah Harris, Rob (Jennifer) Long, Monica and Gretchen Sanny, and her great-grandchildren, Alex and Nick Williams, Allison, Braxton, and Avalon Honore, Maya and Isaiah Harris, and Zack Long. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sanny, Sr., and her long-time special friend, Melvin Bendt. Barb, Bob and Dave would like to thank Dr. Ceynowa and the entire staff at The Cottage for the wonderful care given to their mother. They also would like to thank her dear friend, Barbie Meinerts, and especially their cousin, Olga Bly, an angel here on earth, for the love, care and companionship given to their mother during the final months of her life. Pursuant to the family's request, in lieu of flowers any memorials should be directed to The Cottage in Luverne, Minnesota, in her memory.
