Obituary

MARGUERITE ANNE HOH, age 100, of Luverne, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at the Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. She was born September 24, 1917, in Magnolia Township to Floyd and Sara (Thomas) Norton. She attended Country School District #6 through seventh grade. She attended Luverne High School, and she graduated with the Class of 1934.

On May 29, 1939, Marguerite married Barney Hoh. They worked on the Lawerence Willers' farm in Luverne Township until 1943 when they purchased their farm in Magnolia Township. Barney passed away in 1983 and Marguerite moved into Luverne in 1984. In 2007, Marguerite moved into The Oaks in Luverne. In March, 2015, she moved to the Mary Jane Brown Nursing Home in Luverne.

Marguerite and Barney raised oats, corn, and beans on their farm land. Marguerite was busy with gathering the eggs, separating the cream from the milk, gardening, canning and various other farm chores which provided for her family's needs. After moving to Luverne, she was very active with the Hannah Circle at the United Methodist Church, Luverne, where she took great pride in organizing the work groups for funerals, weddings and the Band Festival. She enjoyed bus tours throughout the country. Marguerite lived in Rock County her entire life. She was the fourth generation of her family to live on or near farmland originally homesteaded by her ancestors. She was a wealth of information on the history of the people who lived there, too.

Marguerite was proud of her family, and spending time with them was her greatest joy. She is survived by four children, Mary (Larry) Hawes , Beaver Creek, MN; Bill (Patty) Hoh, Excelsior, MN; Dorothy DeGroot, Spencer, IA; and Jim (Rachelle) Hoh, Sioux Falls, SD; nine grandchildren, Mark (Maria) Hawes, Sheri (Jon) Finke, Laura (Jay) Fritzke, Michael (Stacy) Hoh, Aaron (Amanda) Hoh, Jeremy Hoh, Megan DeGroot, Nicki DeGroot and Jud (Graciela) DeGroot; fifteen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her brother, Robert; her sister and brother-in-law, May and Everett Wharton, and her parents.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral will be 10 am Saturday at the United Methodist Church, in Luverne, officiated by Pastor Theodora Hall. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
