MARIAN E. VAN STEENWYK, age 77, of Luverne, died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at Lyon Manor Nursing Home, in Rock Rapids, IA. She was born May 16, 1930, in Jasper, to John and Ella (Matthiesen) Gath. She attended school and graduated from Jasper High School in 1948. Marian married Virgil Westphal on June 3, 1951, at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. After their marriage, the couple lived in Luverne. Virgil died on January 14, 1974. Marian married Marion Van Steenwyk on August 5, 1977, at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. After their marriage, the couple also lived in Luverne. Marian worked as a bookkeeper at United Building Center in Luverne. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, in Luverne, where she had been a Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed knitting & crocheting. She also enjoyed making crafts and traveling to craft shows with her husband. Marian is survived by her husband, Marion Van Steenwyk, Luverne; son and daughter-in-law, Delbert & Marjorie Westphal, Minnetrista; four stepchildren, Michael (Thelma) Van Steenwyk, Valley, NE; Melvin (Ruth) Van Steenwyk, Elkpoint, SD; Margaret Kathleen Van Steenwyk, Aberdeen, SD; and Mary Van Steenwyk, Sioux Falls, SD; nine step grandchildren; and eight step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her first husband, Virgil Westphal.
