MARILYN JANE SMITH, age 87, of Worthington, died Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. She was born December 9, 1936, in Worthington, to Carl and Lavina (Grotjohn) Hansen. She graduated from Worthington High School.

Marilyn married Jerry Smith on March 5, 1955, in Tucson, AZ. While Jerry was stationed in Tucson, Marilyn worked for the telephone company. Later in 1955, they moved to Worthington.

Her Catholic faith was very important to her. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Worthington; and the WCCW. Before she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, Marilyn enjoyed traveling with Jerry and they took bus/tour trips around the USA. She was a quiet and unassuming person. Family was important to her and nothing brightened her day more than to be with her family.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Jerry Smith, Worthington; three sons, Brian (Risa) Smith, Sleepy Eye; Jeffrey (Kari) Smith, New Prague; and Kevin Smith, Ellsworth; six grandchildren, Wyatt and Cassie (J.) Smith, Jenna (Phil) Knoke and Kristen, Brandon and Amanda Smith;

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Vernon, Harold and Leonard Hansen; and two sisters, Bernice Pearson and Lyola Tonner.

Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm Tuesday, September 24 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Worthington. Funeral Mass will be 1 pm Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church officiated by Fr. Tim Biren. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery in Worthington.
