MARION HABBEN, age 93, of Worthington, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. ?She was born July 23, 1915 in Minneapolis and was adopted through Children?s Home Society of St. Paul in March of 1916 by Robert Frank and Mary (McChord) Kerr.? She grew up on the family farm near Rushmore.? She attended elementary school in Rushmore and graduated from Worthington High School in 1934.? As a youth she was active in 4-H and the school band, playing the saxophone.? She then attended Mankato State University and graduated in the field of elementary education in 1938. ???? Marion taught school at Reading, Truman and Marshall.? On December 21, 1958, Marion was united in marriage to George Habben in Litchfield, MN.? They continued to live on the family farm near Rushmore and Marion taught elementary school in Adrian until her retirement in 1975. Marion especially enjoyed teaching the students struggling to learn, and was known for her patience and perseverance with them. ?Marion was also actively involved in the farming operation raising hogs, beef and crops, and a bountiful garden.? She also loved the animals on her farm which ranged from sheep, chickens, Persian cats and a variety of dogs. ???? Marion and George also enjoyed traveling and especially fishing trips, but they were never away long from the farm they both enjoyed.? After retirement, they wintered in Harlingen, Texas, and in September of 1980 they moved from the farm to Worthington.? George passed away in 1982. ???? She is survived by a nephew James Habben of Ashton, IA.,?nieces Janice?Olson and Lois Johnson of Wisconsin, and many friends. ???? She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Mary Kerr, and her husband, George Habben.
