MARION SWENSON, age 99, of Luverne, died Friday, July 3, 2015, at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage. She was born June 27, 1916, in Rock County, to Arthur and Sylvia (Ackley) Goembel. She attended country school in Rock County and later attended Luverne Public Schools.
Marion married Wilfred Swenson on June 8, 1946, in Canton, SD. After their marriage, the couple moved to Luverne where they lived all of their married lives. She worked in the Luverne Elementary School cafeteria.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Luverne where she sang in the church choir; the United Methodist Women; the Royal Neighbors; and the Luverne American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, traveling and making afghans for all of her family members.
Marion is survived by her five sons, Bob (Margaret) Swenson, Luverne; Dennis (Sheri) Swenson, Grove, OK; David (Patti) Swenson, Beaver Creek; Kenneth Swenson, Luverne; and Todd (Dawn) Swenson, Brooking, SD; two daughters, Betty (Jerry) Airgood, Kingman, AZ; and Carol (Roger) Krinke, Belview; nineteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; eighteen great great grandchildren, and a Ruth (Lional) Wetzel, Neosho, MO; and many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilfred on January 29, 1995; a grandson, London; a granddaughter, Lisa; two brothers, Donald (Frances) Goembel, and Russell (Helen) Goembel; two sisters, Mildred (Jack) McKay & Grace Miller; and an infant sister.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, in Luverne, officiated by Pastor Theodora K. Hall. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
