MARVIN ?UNC? W. OWENS, age 92, of Luverne, formerly of Adrian, died Saturday, November 27, 2010, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. He was born December 8, 1917, in Rushmore, to Bartholomew and Mary Ann (Green) Owens. Marv grew up in Adrian and graduated from Adrian High School in May of 1936. In 1942, he joined the United States Navy and held the position of Ordinance Gun Fire Control and served in WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Marv retired from the Navy in 1962. He was a member of the Adrian American Legion, the VFW, FRA, CR 10 ? Yorktown and the USS Princeton. He also served on the boards of the Adrian Senior Citizens and the Adrian Legion Argonne Post #32. Marv received a special recognition award from The Fleet Reserve Association Branch #136. He enjoyed traveling to visit his shipmates in various places in the country and being active in community service, especially playing Santa Claus during the Christmas season. Marv is survived by his nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Leland, Herbert, Wayne, Clifford, Everett and his twin brother, Merle Owens; and three sisters, Ada Anderson, Vivian Metz & Madelyn Winter. A memorial service will be Wednesday at 11:00 am at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Adrian, officiated by Fr. Timothy Hall. A time of fellowship will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Committal of cremains with full military honors will be performed by the United States Navy at sea.
