MARY LOU ASCHE, age 61, of rural Ellsworth, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. after a seven-month bout with cancer. She was born March 27, 1952, in Luverne, to Alvin and Lorraine (Thoennes) Cousins. Mary Lou graduated from Magnolia High School in 1970. She later attended Pipestone Vocational School.
Mary Lou married David Asche on March 7, 1975, in Pipestone. After their marriage, the couple lived in Reading before moving to rural Ellsworth in 1980. Mary Lou worked as an Orthodontist's Assistant in Sioux Falls, SD; and at Larson Dental in Worthington. She later worked at various places including Chrystal Glass, New Vision & the Vet Clinic all in Worthington. She most recently worked at Minnesota Soy Producers in Brewster.
Mary Lou had an easy smile and an unwavering dedication to family, loving dozens of nieces and nephews – and grand nieces and nephews – as if they were their own children. They took vacations together, attended Minnesota Vikings games and shared quiet times on the farm. Mary Lou snapped countless numbers of pictures during every gathering, determined to create and keep precious memories. She was especially fond of the candid shots that resulted from catching people off guard.
She also shared her tender heart with so many friends, co-workers and dogs and cats. The late Odie was her favorite cat.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Dave Asche, rural Ellsworth, and her cat, Dusty; two sisters, Lyla (Jim) Torkelson, Pipestone; and Evelyn (Jim) Hermoe, St. James; brother, Buz (Arla) Cousins, Marshall; half-sister, Sharon (Myron) Woida, Millerville; many nieces & nephews; and many great nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; two nieces & one great niece.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian. A private family funeral service will be on Saturday. Burial will be in the Pleasant view Cemetery in Little Rock, IA.
As per Mary's request, in lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Avera-McKennan Prairie Cancer Research Center, 800 E 21st St., PO Box 5045, Sioux Falls, SD 57117..
