MARY ALETHA FISCHENICH, age 81, of Ellsworth, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at her home in Ellsworth. She was born March 18, 1926, on the family farm in Vernon Center, MN, to James and Jane (Neill) Weir. Mary attended school and graduated from Garden City High School in 1944. She attended Mankato State Teachers College and received a Teaching Certificate in Lower Elementary Education. Mary taught third & fourth grade at Henderson, MN, for two years. In 1950, she came to Ellsworth and taught second & third grade for one year at Ellsworth Public School. Mary married Edwin Fischenich on July 2, 1951, in Vernon Center. After their marriage, the couple lived in Ellsworth. Mary & Ed owned & operated E & C Caf?, in Ellsworth, along with Ed?s brother, Cecil, & his wife, Mary Clare, for over thirty years before retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, in Ellsworth, where she taught religion for over fifteen years. She also belonged to the CCW; and various church activities. She enjoyed gardening, the Minnesota Twins & especially her grandchildren. Mary is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Jerry Fischenich, LeSueur; Robert Fischenich, Minneapolis; Dan & Carol Fischenich, Victoria; Tony Fischenich, Ellsworth; Joanne & Reg Herd, Phoenix, AZ; Teresa & Jeff Jacobs, Coto de Caza, CA; and Mark & Jody Fischenich, Mankato; nine grandchildren, Jacqueline, Katherine, Aaron, Patrick, Natalie, Marley, William, Matthew & Ellen; three brothers, Jerry Weir, Austin, TX; Paul Weir, Red Wing; David Weir, Vernon Center; and two sisters, Rita Weir, Inver Grove Heights; and Ann Weir, Inver Grove Heights. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin, in 1986; and two brothers, Pat & Russell Weir.
