MARY HELEN EMERY, age 83, of Luverne, died Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. She was born February 17, 1932, in Luverne, to J. Bryan and Gail (Carter) McRobert. She graduated from Luverne High School before attending the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD.
Mary married Howard Emery on July 14, 1952, in Luverne. The couple lived in California while Howard was in the Navy. After Howard was honorably discharged from the Navy, the couple started farming north of Luverne. After five years they moved to a farm east of Beaver Creek, MN. In 1971, Howard and Mary moved north of Luverne and continued farming until 1985. The couple moved to Scottsdale, AZ where Mary worked at AMK Storage. In 2011, the couple returned to Luverne to fulfill their retirement. Mary entered the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, on August 13, 2012.
She worked at Smith Furniture; and the Farmers Union Coop both in Luverne. Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church, in Luverne; the Luverne Eagles Auxiliary; Kappa Alpha Beta; and the PEO. She enjoyed knitting, playing cards, reading books, traveling, dancing, her family and friends, and the love of her life was her husband, Howard.
Mary is survived by her son, Mark (Deb) Emery, Luverne; four grandchildren, Sandi Emery, Tami (Kyle) Van Heerde, Joe (friend, Lexi) Emery and JayDee Emery; seven great grandchildren; five step grandchildren; thirteen step great grandchildren; a sister, Sara (Richard) Dorn, St. Cloud; and a brother-in-law, Buster (Ardella) Emery, Hector..
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard, on May 18, 2015; and a son, Thomas B. Emery in 1982.
Visitation will be from 1 pm to 2pm Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Luverne. Funeral will be 2 pm Sunday at the United Methodist Church, in Luverne, officiated by Pastor Theodora K. Hall. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
